My research program investigates the articulatory and acoustic foundations of speech, with a focus on how bilingual and multilingual speakers navigate phonetic contrasts across languages. I explore the dynamics of speech production through imaging techniques such as real-time MRI, ultrasound and electromyiography (EMG), examining how factors like language dominance, code-switching, and motor reorganization shape articulatory patterns. Recent studies have focused on phenomena such as asymmetric stop realization in bilingual code-switching, the reorganization of lip dynamics in vowel articulation, and velum movement velocity across speech segments and languages. By integrating experimental phonetics with quantitative modeling, my work aims to uncover the biomechanical and cognitive mechanisms underlying cross-linguistic variability and adaptability in speech.
